Hodie, Rejoice! means Today, Rejoice!
The Vernon Community Singers will make you feel like Rejoicing with songs that describe the many reasons to celebrate Christmas: Mary’s baby boy, The Christmas Star, Shepherds, Angels, quiet nights, warm blessings, hearth and home, goodwill of friends, and Hodie Christus natus est! We’ll also give you reasons to chuckle as we Jingle our way through Tchaikosvsky’s Nutcracker, spoof a 1950”s holiday romance and tell you what happened in the Twelve Days After Christmas (no birds were harmed-honestly!)
Our choir has been singing and harmonizing in Vernon for over 32 years. Seventy-seven voices means energy and power but under Paul Hunter’s masterful direction beautifully melodic moments as well. We are thrilled to have pianist Julie Wormald accompany us again. We sing for the love and fun of it but also to help raise funds for Music education in Vernon. Part of our Concert proceeds are always distributed to various School District 22 music programs and to contribute to local music scholarships like the Molly Boyd Scholarship and the Vernon Registered Teachers Music Association Scholarship.
To further our promotion of Music Education, our Concert guests will be The Vernon Community Music School Chamber Orchestra and their Carriage House Orchestra. The members are all students of the wonderful teachers at the Music School. One of their violin instructors, Bev Martens told us that “All the orchestra members are practicing with great anticipation and enthusiasm” We look forward to enjoying the final product of all the student and instructors’ time and musical energy!
